How long have you been doing art? I've been doodling, cutting and gluing since the 1st grade. But the work I do now? For about 6 years.
At what age did you begin creating and why? I started my artist career as a costume designer right after I graduated from college. My creative life went down a few turns and twists. I found myself making altered books in 2006the rest sort of morphed out of that.
What is your favorite part of teaching? I love helping people find what I call their "creative core." We all have it in us to be artists, we just need to feel safe enough and confident enough to explore that. That's what I think the best part of teaching is. Helping people reveal that of themselves.
What do you find most challenging about teaching? The artistic process for me is an evolution of thought. But it is so hard to condense that into 6 hours. students progress at different rates over the course of a day. Some times people progress and sometimes they don't. Trying to find a way to turn around their frustrations can be the most challenging part of the day.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to spend time outdoors, hiking and gardening with my family and our german shorthair pointer, Mickey.
Who is your favorite artist? How can I narrow it down to 1? My taste is incredibly eclectic: Probably, my all time favorite is Vincent Van Gogh, but I love Anselm Kieffer, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Louise Nevelson, Rauschenberg, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and Asa Ames. (like I said, very eclectic)
What is your favorite type of art medium? Another hard thing to pin down. I really love so many different mediums. The mediums I like to play with? Collage, assemblage, photography and painting.
What is one interesting (trivial) fact that everyone should know about you? I used to work for a film company in NYC. I worked on and appeared in a film that won a Grand Jury award at both Cannes and Sundance film festivals.

Last summer we went to Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania. There are something incredibly haunting and moving about the entire state park. The emotion it stirred in me, still resonates with me. This photo of one of the memorials was taken at dusk. The light was so magically and surreal. The memorial had four figures on the top. Each looking out into a different cardinal direction, like guardians of remembrance. I love this photo because it reminds me of how fragile our lives can be and how we should embrace every moment of our lives and live it to the fullest.
